Brooklyn, NY- It finally happened. After close defeats to games out of reach, the Cougars Soccer team defeated St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears 8-2 on Thursday Sept.29, 2011. The Cougars improved to 1-10 while the Bears fell to 0-3 in their first season as a D3 NCAA member.
The Cougars had to wait 45 minuntes from the start due to rain and lightning. Once the weather cleared, the Cougars were ready for action and
Zeakiel Daley had a career day. Daley scored a season high 5 goals (3 in the 1st half). He scored in the 13th min, 18th, and 28th minutes in the half.
James Maynard added a pair of goals and Senior
Miguel Rodriguez added a lone goal in the 58th minute. LeRone McIntosh notched 2 assists and
Daniel Joseph added an assist as well.
For the keepers, Cougars Chris Welsh played 90 minutes, allowed 2 goals and stopped 2 shots. Bears goalie Michael Miner played 90 minutes, allowed 8 goals and stopped 14 shots that came his way.
The Cougars outshot the Bears of Brooklyn 36-4.
MEC will be back in action on Sunday Oct. 2, 2011, when they take on the St. Joseph's College of Long Island Eagles (Patchogue Campus). Game time is set for 4pm.
