New York, NY- The Cougars fell to the John Jay Bloodhounds 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 5-15) on Tuesday March 20, 2012 at John Jay College. The win improved the Bloodhounds to 3-10 Overall and 2-8 CUNYAC while the Cougars dropped to 0-22 Overall and 0-12 CUNYAC.
The Bloodhounds took set 1. They hit .038 in the set while the Cougars hit -.036. In the 2nd set, Cougars broke out to a 10-1 before the Bloodhounds made a brief comeback. They cut the lead to 4 but never took the lead in the set. The 3rd set was all John Jay up until 16 all. The Cougars outscored JJ 9-4 in the final stretch. In the 4th set, the Cougars were tied at 9 before JJ reaquired the lead. The 5th set was briefly lead by MEC. After a 2-1 lead, JJ went on a 10-0 run. MEC would score 4 more pts but it wasn't enough.
MEC was led in the loss from
Jamal Baptiste and
Olando Cummings. Each tallied 8 kills. Baptiste tallied 9 digs, and 2 blocking assists. Cummings recorded 2 service aces, 2 digs, 2 solo blocks, and a blocking assist.
Lancedale Calderon tallied 19 assists,
Jason Brown recorded 14 digs and
Erick Pericles tallied 6 blocking assists.
John Jay was led from Korede Griffith with 11 kills.
MEC will be back in action on Thursday March 22, 2012 when they take on the Brooklyn College Bulldogs at BC. Game time is set for 6pm.
