Men's volleyball overwhelmed in final CUNYAC match of 2026 campaign as Bearcats snatch victory in straight sets

Box Score The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team wrapped up the CUNYAC portion of its 2026 schedule yesterday, falling in straight sets to the Baruch College Bearcats by scores of 4-25, 5-25, and 2-25. The contest took place at the ARC Arena in New York, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-17 on the year (0-8 CUNYAC), while Baruch improved to 11-11 (6-2 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, Ahmed Toure registered a team-high two kills. Chrisnel Nicolas contributed a kill, and veteran Nkosi Fraser finalized his evening with a team-leading two assists.

In the victory for Baruch College, Evan Kang was nearly perfect for the match, registering nine kills on 10 attack attempts (.900). He also recorded seven service aces and three digs. Alen Nurbayev record a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage, recording seven kills on seven attack attempts. Omar Noaman added six kills and eight service aces, and Lucas Maziarz finalized his evening with six kills and three digs. Isamael Sanogo also played a key role in the win with five kills (5-0-5, 1.000), and Valentin Rodriguez posted match-highs of 26 assists and 11 service aces.

Baruch's longest run of the opening set came following a Toure kill that brought Medgar Evers to within nine at 12-3. The Bearcats rattled off seven consecutive points (highlighted by three service aces by Noaman, and two kills by Nurbayev) to boost their advantage to 19-3.

After an attack error by Maziarz halted Baruch's run, the hosts closed out the set with a 6-0 spurt, featuring two service aces by Maziarz, a kill piece by Nurbayev, Noaman, and Kang, and an attack error by Nicolas.

Just as it did in the opening set, the Bearcats put together their longest run of the second set after leading 12-3. From there, Baruch notched 10 straight points (highlighted by five service aces by Noaman, and three kills by Nurbayev) to snatch a commanding 22-3 advantage. The Cougars scored two of the ensuing three points, with one of those two points coming via a Nicolas kill, but Baruch would wrap up the set with consecutive points, thanks to Nurbayev recording a kill and then a service ace.

Baruch College dominated the third set, scoring the first 21 points. Valentin Rodriguez recorded 10 service aces during that tremendous run for the hosts, with Kang adding five kills. A kill by Toure finally halted Baruch's offensive onslaught, and an attack error by Noaman gave Medgar Evers a second straight point. The Bearcats got back on track, though, as Maziarz and Noman recorded kills, with those being sandwiched around a pair of Kang service aces, to end the set and the match.

The Bearcats hit .750 for the evening (33-3-40) while recording 30 service aces, 30 assists, and 17 digs.

Medgar Evers will wrap up its season on Wednesday evening, as the Cougars will travel to Morristown, NJ to battle the Eagles of Saint Elizabeth University. Start time at Saint Joseph Hall is scheduled for 7:00pm.
