COUGARS BEAT BEARS IN OT

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- On Thursday Sept. 27, 2012, the Medgar Evers College Men's Soccer team played the Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn Bears at Aviator Sports and Rec Center. Medgar Evers defeated the Bears 3-2 in OT. MEC improves to 1-4 Overall while Saint Joesph's College of Brooklyn dropped to 0-4 Overall.
 
Both teams entered the contest seeking their first victory. Saint Joesph's Brooklyn jumped lead 2-0 at the break. Medgar Evers outshot the Bears 13-4 and 33-6 for the game.
 
In the 2nd half, MEC scored their first goal of the contest. Senior Midfield Kyheo Farquharson netted the first Cougar goal, assisted from Borris Pendie and James Maynard, cutting the lead to 1 (69th minute). Six minutes later, Senior James Maynard tied the game by kicking the ball just over the head of goalkeeper Michael Miner (76th minute).
 
After both teams failed to score, the game went into Overtime. In the 95th minute, Freshman Nikolai Calder kicked the ball pass the keeper, after a scramble near the Bears net. This would make the score 3-2.
 
This win snaps a 6 game losing streak dating back to 2011. For the goalkeepers, Saint Joseph's College Michael Miner played all 100 minutes, gave up 3 goals and made 10 saves. Medgar Evers Christopher Welsh played 100 minutes, gave up 2 goals and made 2 saves.
 
Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Saturday Sept. 29, 2012, when they travel to Staten Island, and play the College of Staten Island Dolphins in a CUNYAC Tilt. Game time is set for 2pm.
