COUGARS FALL TO DOLPHINS 2-1 IN MEN'S SOCCER

Box Score Staten Island, NY- On Saturday Sept. 29, 2012, the Medgar Evers College competed against the College of Staten Island Dolphins on the CSI Campus. The Dolphins won 2-1 and improve to 6-6 Overall and 2-1 CUNYAC. The Cougars drop to 1-5 Overall and 0-2 CUNYAC.
 
CSI struck first in the 19th minute making the score 1-0. The Dolphins outshot Medgar Evers 8-4 in the 1st half. Both teams were physical in the contest. Five Yellow Cards were handed out, 4 of which to the visiting Cougars. Medgar Evers College tied the game at 1, when a kick from Senior Andrew Smith deflected off a College of Staten Island defender, flew up in the air, and landed over the head of the goalkeeper Ahmed El-Gahreib. This came in the 50th minute. Fast forward to the 86th minute, and CSI's Daniel Tsygankov scored off a kick inside the penalty box.
 
For the goalkeepers, Medgar Evers College Junior Christopher Welsh played 90 minutes, giving up 2 goals, and making 4 saves. His counterpart Staten Island's Ahmed El-Gahreib played 90 minutes, giving up a goal, and making 3 saves.
 
Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Monday Oct. 1, 2012, when they take on the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark. Game time is 7pm at Aviator Sports and Rec Center in Brooklyn, NY
