COUGARS FIGHT HARD BUT FALL TO RIVAL BEARS 3-0 IN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- Earlier tonight the Medgar Evers College Cougars traveled to Brooklyn Technical High School and battled their arch rival Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn Bears. The Bears defeated the Cougars 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, and 25-20). They improve 2-5 Overall while the Cougars drop to 0-3 Overall.

In just the 3rd match this season, the Cougars battled with the Bears. The match featured 24 ties and 11 lead changes. The Cougars recorded a season high 23 kills and 7 service aces. After the Bears rolled through set 1 25-14, the Cougars played back and forth with the Bears. The Cougars were up a few times in the set, the last being 20-19, but the Cougars couldn't finish the job. In the 3rd set, the turning point was at 13 all. The Bears would finish on a 14-4 run.

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Senior Christopher Welsh with 9 kills on 21 total attacks. Welsh tallied an assist, 8 digs, a solo block, and a blocking assist. Junior Shemroy Primo added 6 kills and Wen-Liang Zhu recorded a team high 17 assists.    

In the win, the Bears were led by Raul Urshela with 12 kills and Martin Torres with 11 kills. Iqbal Husain added a game high 22 assists.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday March 6, 2013 when they travel to Upper Manhattan and take on the City College of New York Beavers. They will play each other twice on that night. Game times are 5pm and 7pm.
