Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y – The Medgar Evers men's soccer team played solidly in the first half, but would lose control as they dropped an 8-0 decision Wednesday night at the Aviator Sports Complex.
Filling in at goalkeeper,
Jeron Davidson (Arima Trinidad/Trinity College East) stopped two shots on goal for the Cougars in defeat (2-7).
Patrick Gentles (Portmore, Jamaica/Jonathan Grant [Jamaica]),
Stanley Lalanne (Aquin, Haiti/Sheepshead Bay) and
Dave Henry (Carrefour, Haiti/Carnarsie) accounted for all three Medgar Evers shots.
For the Bearcats (5-3), Alexander Marano and Juan Galvez two goals apiece in the victory. Myles Bent, Oshae Miller, and Abraham Anthonio each netted a goal while adding an assist.
The first half saw the Cougars battle tough and make every challenge difficult for Baruch. Both teams played even the first 20 minutes of the evening, with the 25 mile-per-hour winds playing a factor on every shot and pass. In the 23rd minute, Bent fired a shot from the left wing that sailed into the net to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Marano then scored five minutes later on a corner kick that hooked past the keeper. They would tally a third goal before the half when Justin Starrantino netted a penalty kick at 39:48.
In the second half, the Bearcats unleashed an offensive outburst, firing five shots into the net. They took advantage of some good run outs and took advantage of Medgar Evers mishaps in front of the net. Marano would score on a Miller cross, then Miller beat the keeper less than five minutes later. Galvez wrapped up the contest with the final two goals.
Medgar Evers will come back and face CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College Saturday afternoon. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Kingsborough Community College
