Box Score 2 BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team was beaten in straight sets by the College of Staten Island [19-25, 5-25, 16-25], then rallied to take a set victory in a 3-1 [10-25, 7-25, 25-22, 9-25] defeat to John Jay College as part of a CUNYAC multi-match Monday afternoon at the West Quad Center on the campus of Brooklyn College.

In the first match, the Dolphins (6-10) took control from the opening serve by jumping out to a big lead in set one. Medgar Evers would rally back to cut it to within 21-19, but CSI would score the final four points to take the set win. The second set was dominated by the Dolphins, scoring 16 unanswered points to start before locking up the win at 25-5.
A quick 7-0 run by CSI put the Cougars in a jam in set three, but they would fight back with kills from Roberts and Bemberry along with multiple attack errors to get back within two points at 14-12. The Dolphins would all but seal the win with nine of the next 10 points.
It was a similar script against the Bloodhounds (6-11, 2-3 CUNYAC), where they ran out to an early advantage in set one. The Cougars would work back with a few more of Roberts' kills to get within 15-8. A 10-2 John Jay run would secure the first set, and would take set two after a near flawless stanza. They compiled 11 kills and just one attack error as they earned a 25-7 win.
Set three started again with an 11-3 Bloodhound run, but the Cougars would take advantage of five attack errors and a Benberry kill cut the deficit to 11-9. After a run put John Jay up 19-11, the Cougars would then storm back in the set with two kills by Roberts and a kill and service ace from Bemberry. Trailing 21-16, Medgar Evers showed tremendous heart with nine of the next 10 points to rally back and force a fourth set at 25-22. The fourth set went back and forth early, but the Bloodhounds would take control with 12 straight points as they locked down the match victory at 25-9.
Medgar Evers will return to action Wednesday on the road when they travel to Throggs Neck to take on Maritime College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
