Women's Volleyball Defensive Specialist Martiza Argueta earns spot on 2025 CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Sportsmanship team

On Thursday afternoon, November 20, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced the league's women's volleyball all-star award winners for the 2025 season, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Medgar Evers College was represented by sophomore defensive specialist Martiza Argueta, as she was voted to the conference's sportsmanship team.

Argueta embodies a versatile student-athlete in a multitude of ways. A four-sport athlete of the college, her athletic endeavors constitute just a portion of her college experience. This past women's volleyball season, she competed in 55 sets, which was the second-highest total of anyone on the team. Always a positive and encouraging student-athlete, she exemplified a team-first mentality, putting the success of the squad ahead of her own personal accomplishments.

While serving as a leader of the women's volleyball team, balancing five classes, and maintaining a 3.9 GPA, Argueta makes the most of her college experience, setting herself up for a bright future post-college. She currently serves as the President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, and the President of Shades (Sisters Having a Definite Excellence Strategy). Additionally, she is the Secretary for the CUNYAC Student-Athletic Advisory Committee. Argueta is a Brooklyn Recovery Corps Intern for the Office of Communications, and a "Just Salad" College Ambassador, which is an initiative to help student-athletes make everyday health and sustainability possible.

Always an advocate for positive change, Argueta served as a moderator for "Tragedy to Unity", a forum speaking about possible solutions towards gun violence in neighborhoods. Finally, she was a part of a panel for ASAP (CUNY K16 Initiatives) for the Network of College Success.

Argueta is the consummate college student, achieving excellent grades, staying active by competing in multiple sports, and getting involved in leadership and advocacy roles on and off campus.
