Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team lost a decision in straight sets to CUNYAC foe Hunter College, [8-25, 13-25, 10-25], Thursday night at the Hunter Sportsplex on the Hunter campus.

For the Cougars (0-21, 0-7 CUNYAC), Kalifa Roberts (San Fernando, Trinidad/La Romain Secondary) led the team with her sixth match with double-figure kills with 10 along with seven digs. AnnMarie Bemberry also compiled double digits, dishing 10 assists in a losing effort while Naomi Chandler added three kills and two assists.

Hunter (15-12, 5-1 CUNYAC) was topped by Julia Connolly, who slammed a game-high 18 kills along with six service aces. Hawks setter Miranda Hogan paced the team with 26 assists, while Taylor Kerr-Haiduk contributed with six kills and four aces.

After the first set started back-and-forth between both teams, Hunter let loose runs of six straight and then 10 consecutive points to put it out of reach at 25-8. Connolly dominated the stanza with six kills and two aces for the Hawks.

In set two, Medgar Evers would show some fight with five Roberts kills and would get within four points midway through but an 8-2 Hunter run gave them a 25-13 win. The third set saw more of the same, with the Hawks running out to a 9-0 run to start.

Service aces by Chandler and Bemberry along with some attack errors got the Cougars back into the contest, cutting the deficit to 12-7. Hunter would pull away with nine of the next 11 points going their way as they rolled to a 25-10 decision in set three.

The Cougars will then travel to Camden, N.J. Saturday afternoon as they take on the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference matchup on the road. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
