Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's soccer team closed out their conference play with a 5-1 loss to CUNYAC foe City College of New York Saturday morning at Randall's Island.
Zeakiel Daley (Bronx, N.Y./Martin Van Buren) tallied his team-leading fifth goal on the season late in the game for the Cougars (2-12-1, 1-6-1 CUNYAC). The assist on the lone goal was from
Shakeel Warrick (Port of Spain, Trinidad/George Westinghouse), while
Remorn Radway (Kingston, Jamaica/Franklin D. Roosevelt) stopped five shots at the keeper position in a losing effort.
For the Beavers (8-7, 5-3 CUNYAC), Aaron Schoenfelder notched two goals in the win. Stephanos Hondrakis added the game-winning score, while both Stylianos Markou and Lanfia Diaby each dished off two assists.
The first half saw CCNY strike first with a Hondrakis goal at 11:50 off two nice passes leading to the score. Schoenfelder added the second goal of the half with a penalty shot into the net at 23:19. A defensive battle the rest of the half saw the score stand at 2-0 at intermission.
In the second stanza, the Beavers put some space in between Medgar Evers with two goals within 1:32. Augustine Amissah fired in a goal at 53:27, while Abraham Martinez followed it with a score at 54:59 to go up 4-0. At 88:38, Shoenfelder added his second goal of the game from the right side. Daley would score in the 90th minute of the game, after a nice pass from Warrick to end the game losing 5-1.
Before they face off with top-seeded College of Staten Island at the CUNYAC Championships, they close out the regular season Monday afternoon taking on The College of Old Westbury. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Aviator Sports Complex.
