Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team played with great resolve all match, but the City College of New York proved to be too much in a straight-set defeat [10-25, 15-25, 18-25] in the team's home opener at the Cougars' Cave.

AnnMarie Bemberry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fashion Industries) secured a double-double in a losing effort for the Cougars (0-8), tallying team-highs with 11 assists and 12 digs.
Kalifa Roberts (San Fernando, Trinidad/La Romain Seconday) notched double figures by slamming a team-best 10 kills, while
Naomi Chandler (Port of Spain, Trinidad/Bishop Anstey) added nine assists to go with three assists and two kills.

Angela Ubanwa recorded nine kills as the Beavers (2-8) notched their second straight victory of the season. Veralucia Quispe contributed a match-high 15 digs, while Cassidy Iannariello led the way by dishing out 12 assists.

CCNY broke open the first set with six of the first seven points of the night. They would continue to dominate the stanza, building a double-digit lead as they grabbed the set win at 25-10.

The second set saw Medgar Evers fight back from an early 8-1 deficit. Following a timeout down as much as 12, they would battle back to within 21-15 after some long volleys that excited the Cougars faithful in the stands. Following a timeout, the Beavers would rattle off four straight points to take set two.

In the third, both teams went back-and-forth trading the lead through the first half of the stanza. The Cougars could not build any point runs in the second half of the set, as CCNY would begin pulling away to seal the three-set win.

Medgar Evers will return to action Thursday night for another home matchup, this time taking on borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) out of the Skyline Conference. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
