Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's soccer team had their two-game winning streak snapped as they dropped a 8-0 decision to CUNYAC foe the College of Staten Island Wednesday night at the Aviator Sports Complex.
The Cougars (2-6) were paced by keeper
Ziyaddeen Mohammed (Accra, Ghana/Lower East Side), who stopped eight shots in a losing effort. The team put two shots up the whole game, with
Patrick Gentles (Portmore, Jamaica/Jonathan Grant) and
Jeron Davidson (Arima, Trinidad/Trinity College East) firing the two attempts off the mark.
For the Dolphins (3-6), Philip Lefkowitz tallied two goals and an assist in the win, while Nermin Kurtesi scored a goal and added an assist of his own. Ruben Diaz dished off the assist on the game-winning goal on a corner kick, and Marcin Klim also netted two scores.
The first half saw a nice back-and-forth matchup, with the Cougars supplying some pressure, disrupting any sort of CSI offensive push early on. Mohammed would make some incredible stops in goal from close range as well.
The Dolphins would strike first when Diaz would score off an outstanding corner cross from Lefkowitz at 27:25. Klim would add his score about a minute later to add to their advantage. Lefkowitz would tally a goal himself following a great pass from midfield to go up 3-0 at intermission.
Moving into the second, Lefkowitz secured his second goal of the game after a Kurtesi corner at 48:53. The Dolphins would continue with another score less than three minutes after as Kurtesi also put a shot in the back of the net.
They would continue their run with three more goals in the stanza, as they sealed the win. Medgar Evers would get a few good chances, but failed to muster a few chances attacking the offensive end, but could not muster up a shot on goal the entire half.
The Cougars will continue their four-game CUNYAC run on September 30th, when they take on Baruch College. Start time is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Aviator Sports Complex.
