Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's soccer team put the pressure on the offensive end in the second half, but could not muster a goal as they dropped a 4-0 decision to Sarah Lawrence Friday afternoon in their 2015 season opener.
Â
Despite outshooting their opponents 12-8 in the game including eight shots in the second half alone, the Cougars (0-1) failed to put one in the back of the net. Both
Jeron Davidson (Arima, Trinidad/Trinity College East) and
Zeakiel Daley (Bronx, N.Y./Martin Van Buren) let two shots on goal in a losing effort.
Â
Mohamed Camara notched a hat trick in the win for the Gryphons (1-0), while Ron Lieferman tallied the other goal. James Berry and Sean Garrett combined for seven saves for a shutout in goal.
Â
Sarah Lawrence struck early in the first half with Camara's first goal of the day on a nice cross to the close left wing at 11:02. Lieferman would add his score at 37:54 as the game went to 2-0.
Shaquille Stewart (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Erasmus) had a great breakaway chance before intermission, but could not score as the game went to half.
Â
In the second half, Medgar Evers played a much more aggressive style of game, attacking the zone better than the first stanza. The Cougars put up the first seven shots in the half, but could not put it past the Sarah Lawrence keepers. Camara would add his second after stealing a goal kick right in front of the net. His third goal was on a tough angle from the far left wing that sealed the win for the Gryphons.
