Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite forcing a fourth set after being down 2-0, the Medgar Evers men's volleyball team could not complete the comeback as they fell to borough rival Pratt Institute, 3-1 [15-25, 21-25, 25-19, 21-25], Thursday night at the ARC.
Jamal Chance (Gouyave, Grenada) posted double figures in two categories in a losing effort for the Cougars (0-9). The junior slammed team-highs in both kills (19) and digs (12) and had five blocks. Setter
Angel Seda (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 29 assists with four kills and eight digs, while
Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added seven kills with six digs.
The Cannoneers were paced by David Cutler, who connected on a game-high 33 kills with 19 digs and five service aces in the win. Brandon Ryan set 39 assists and had two blocks, while Andreas Haji-Georgi chipped in with 16 digs.
After falling behind by two sets, Medgar Evers trailed 15-10 and looked like they were headed for a three-set defeat. However, the Cougars would rattle off six straight points and nine of the next 10 points to take a 19-16 advantage. After Pratt chipped away at the deficit down to one, kills by Chance,
Cameron Bryan (Queens, N.Y.) and
Randy Jones (Queens, N.Y.) closed out the set victory for the Cougars.
With Pratt leading 22-15 in the fourth set, Medgar Evers would not give up and took advantage of some mishaps to get within 22-20. Despite the effort, the Cannoneers would close out the win with three of the last four points.
Up next for the Cougars is a tri-match in New Haven, Connecticut Sunday afternoon against host Albertus Magnus and CUNYAC opponent CCNY. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
