Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite an impressive performance to nearly force a fifth set, the Medgar Evers men's volleyball team fell to CUNYAC foe CCNY, 3-1 [14-25, 15-25, 25-23, 23-25] Thursday night in an exciting matchup at the Cougars Cave.
This past week's CUNYAC and ECAC D-III South Player of the Week
Jamal Chance (Gouyave, Grenada) led the Cougars (0-11, 0-6 CUNYAC) with 10 kills along with eight digs and seven blocks, including six of them in the team's lone set win.
Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added seven kills and a service ace, while
Angel Seda (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 17 assists.
Cecil Clarke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added three blocks of his own in a losing effort.
The Beavers (3-9, 3-4 CUNYAC) were paced by a balanced attack as Edward He and Sebastjano Aga added game-highs 10 kills apiece. David Cham added nine kills and four blocks, while Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 24 assists in the victory.
After CCNY won the first two sets in rather convincing fashion, Medgar Evers would erupt to start out the third with an 8-1 run that was led by Chance and his four straight blocks against the opposing attacks. The Beavers would battle back into the game to even the score at 22-22, but Miller's kill from Seda closed out the set win.
In set four, the Cougars would move ahead by as many as 16-10, but the Medgar attack errors brought CCNY back into contention. They would fall behind 24-21, but would cut into the deficit after a Miller kill and an attack error to put the game within 24-23. However, their rally would fall short after a service error.
The Cougars will look to bounce back from their loss tomorrow night when they host Lancaster Bible College at the Cougars Cave. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Follow MECAthletics.com, MEC Athletics on Facebook and @MECCougars on Twitter for updates, stats and game recaps.
