Men's Volleyball Beaten on the Road by CUNYAC Foe York in Straight Sets

Box Score JAMAICA, N.Y. -- The Medgar Evers men's volleyball team dropped a CUNYAC decision in straight sets to York (N.Y.), 3-0 [16-25, 15-25, 19-25], Tuesday night at the York College Gym as part of a multi-match.

For the Cougars (1-18, 0-11 CUNYAC), Jamal Chance (Gouyave, Grenada) topped the team with 12 of the team's 22 kills throughout the match along with seven digs, two assists and a service ace in a losing effort. Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills and four digs, while Angel Seda (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dished out 14 assists as the team's primary setter.

Akeem George totaled a team-best 10 kills for the Cardinals (10-16, 8-4 CUNYAC), while both Frederis Tapia and Anson Webb added seven and six kills respectively in the victory. Webb had two digs as well, while Jonathan Liao added a game-high 28 assists.

York took control from the very first set, building a seven-point lead. But the Cougars would use kills from Chance, Miller and a Cameron Bryan (Queens, N.Y.) service ace to pull within 14-13. Following a Cardinals timeout, they would tally six of the next seven points then five consecutive to secure the first set. The second set began with a more back-and-forth pace with numerous ties and lead changes. However, while tied at 15-15, York would erupt to close the set on a 10-0 to snag the two-set advantage.

In set three, Medgar would move ahead by three points early but York would grab control of the lead. Down 18-12 after a timeout, the Cougars would cut into the deficit to within three points thanks to kills from Chance and the first career kill from Aker-Mark Bayley-Hay (Miami, Fla.). But the team could not get any closer in the third, as a bad set closed out the set and match 25-19.

Up next for the Cougars is a home matchup Thursday night against borough rival Brooklyn College for a 'Black Out' Game at the Cougars Cave. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Follow MECAthletics.com, MEC Athletics on Facebook and @MECCougars on Twitter for recaps, stats and updates.
