Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers men's volleyball jumped out to a one-set advantage, but despite a good fight they would lose in four sets to CUNYAC foe Lehman College, [25-20, 14-20, 10-25, 19-25], Tuesday night at the Cougars Cave.
Jamal Chance (Gouyave, Grenada) led the way for the Cougars (2-21, 0-14 CUNYAC) with 12 kills along with nine digs and a block, while
Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight kills in a losing effort. Setter
Angel Seda (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dished out 20 assists, while
Aker-Mark Bayley-Hay (Miami, Fla.) chipped in with three kills and a block.
For the Lightning, (5-17, 3-10 CUNYAC), Orlando Vargas slammed 17 kills with eight digs while Ramon Jimenez added 14 kills with four blocks of his own in the victory. Emmanuel Ortiz added 33 assists as the primary setter, while he, Vargas and Jimenez each fired six service aces.
The Cougars had a near-perfect first set, only committing one attack error along with 11 kills for a stellar .400 hitting percentage as they grabbed the opening set 25-20. In the second, Lehman would use a 10-2 run to pull away with a 25-14 win.
Five of the first 11 points in the third set were from service aces as the Lightning ran away with the 25-10 victory. Medgar Evers would jump to an early lead in the fourth set and moved up 17-14, looking to force a deciding fifth set. But Lehman would strike with six straight points then closed with another five-point streak to earn the 25-19 win.
