In the first set, Sarah Lawrence battled back from being down 22-19 to score six of the last seven points and take the win 25-23. The second saw Medgar Evers roar out to an early lead with six straight points. After the Gryphons cut the deficit down to 14-10, kills by Miller and Chance helped expand the lead and a Clarke kill sealed their set victory.
Midway through the third and up 9-7, the Cougars took advantage of some attack errors by their opponents to pad their lead. Chance totaled eight kills in the stanza, while Miller slammed five of his own as they grabbed a 25-16 win. A great start in set four saw the Cougars score nine of the first 11 points and would not look back as they earned their first win since March 19, 2015.
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as part of a CUNYAC multi-match against both CCNY and John Jay at Lehman College.
