Box Score Men's Volleyball Suffers Tough Loss, Falls to St. Joe's-Brooklyn 3-2 in a Nonconference Match
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The men's volleyball team hosted the Bears of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a non-conference matchup on Thursday night at the Cougars' Cave. The Cougars fell behind two sets but battled back. After a hard fought fourth set Medgar Evers was able to force a fifth set. Unfortunately they ran out of gas in the deciding set falling 15-3. With this loss, Medgar Evers falls to 0-4 on the year while St. Joe's improves to 1-10.
The Cougars held a solid 17-7 lead in the opening set at the Cave but could not hold off the Bears. St. Joe's answered with a run of their own winning the set 26-24. The second set went to St. Joe's 25-17. Despite being down two sets the Cougars would not quit. They took control and held their composure in the third set winning convincingly 25-14.
The fourth set was a marathon as both teams went back and forth exchanging point after point. The Cougars were able to force a deciding fifth set with some key plays from junior
Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore
Kareem Cyrus (Saint Georges, Grenada). Medgar Evers was gassed going into the fifth set and struggled to hang with the Bears as they fell 15-3 in the deciding set.
Medgar Evers was led by
Shaquille Miller who had a team-high 10 kills to go along with 36 digs, and six aces.
Kareem Cyrus added eight kills while recording 35 digs and five assists. St. Joe's was led by
Mark Antoun who had 27 assists on the night. Men's volleyball is back in action Monday, February 20
th when they visit Brooklyn College for a tri-match between Brooklyn and Staten Island at 10 a.m.
