(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The men's volleyball team visited the Bears of St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn in a non-conference matchup at the Hill Center on Thursday night. The Cougars fought hard evening the score a 1-1 after winning the second set but they could not keep it up as they fell in four sets to the Bears 3-1. With this loss, Medgar Evers falls to 0-16 on the year while St. Joe's improves to 2-15.
 
In the opening set the Cougars allowed the St. Joe's to get out to an early lead falling behind 9-1. Medgar Evers made a small comeback cutting the lead to 23-18 but would give up the next two points falling 25-18. The second was a nice start for the Cougars as they took a quick 4-0 lead thanks to some errors from St. Joe's. Sophomore Abdul Kamara (Sierra Leon, West Africa) recorded a kill to ignite a 6-0 Medgar Evers run. St. Joe's did not give up as they cut the lead to 18-15 and then with a service ace they cut the lead to 22-20. The Cougars would hang on to even the match at 1-1 winning the second set 25-21.
 
The third set started out evenly as both teams went back and forth scoring. The Cougars were trailing 8-6 when the Bears began a 7-0 to push the lead to 15-6. Despite a late run from Medgar Evers they would drop the third set 25-16 to fall behind 2-1. In the fourth set the Cougars were on their way to forcing a deciding fifth set. They led 8-5 early on but then St. Joe's came back with a 7-0 run to take the lead 12-8. The Cougars hung around trailing by just three after two kills from juniors Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and  Ronald Bonhomme (Brooklyn, N.Y.) making the score 17-14. The Bears would close out the match on an 8-1 run winning 25-15.
 
Medgar Evers was led by sophomore Kareem Cyrus (Saint Georges, Grenada) who had a team-high 13 digs to go along with a team-high 17 assists on the night. Abdul Kamara recorded 11 digs while recording five kills. Ronald Bonhomme was also a key contributor on the night recording a career-high eight assists for the Cougars.
 
Men's volleyball is back in action Saturday, March 11th when they travel to York for a CUNYAC tri-match between the Cardinals and Baruch College beginning 12 p.m.
