Box Score Men's Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets on the Road at CSI
(STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.) – Medgar Evers men's volleyball team visited the Dolphins of Staten Island in a CUNYAC matchup on Thursday night. The Cougars had a tough time with the strength and quickness of Staten Island as the Cougars would lose the match in straight sets 3-0. With that loss, the Cougars fall to 0-19 (0-8 CUNYAC) on the year while Staten Island improves to 5-9 (2-4).
The opening set was a tough one as the Cougars managed to score just two points losing the set 25-2 giving the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. The second sets was a lot better as the Cougars made a few plays getting kills from sophomores
Jovan Scott (Queens, N.Y.) and
Justin Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Medgar Evers was up 2-0 early but thanks to a big run from Staten Island the Cougars fell behind big. The Cougars managed to make a small run back but it was not enough as they would lose 25-11, and falling behind 2-0.
In the third set, the Dolphins took an early lead but Medgar Evers would respond with a few points of their own down just 5-3. Staten Island made a quick 5-0 run to give them a comfortable lead 10-3 lead. The Cougars answered back with a few points but they still trailed 17-9. Staten Island would pull away after that winning the third set 25-10 to take the match.
Medgar Evers was led by sophomore
Justin Sutton who had a team-high five digs on the match. Sutton also added one kill while his teammate
Jovan Scott recorded two kills of his own. Staten Island was led by
Danil Kukovitskiy who had a match-high eight kills. Men's volleyball is back in action this Sunday, March 19
th when they travel to Mt. St. Vincent for a non-conference matchup beginning 12 p.m.
