Box Score Men's Volleyball Falls to Mt. St. Vincent on the Road 3-0
(RIVERDALE, N.Y.) – Medgar Evers men's volleyball team visited the College of Mt. St. Vincent in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars had a tough first set, came back and played well in the second but would eventually fall in straight sets. With that loss, the Cougars fall to 0-20 on the year while Mt. St. Vincent improves to 12-10.
In the opening set the Cougars fell behind 4-0 early before they could score their first point. Mt. St. Vincent powered past Medgar Evers with a 10-0 run closing out the first set by a score of 25-5.
It was much different for the Cougars starting out the second set. They would jump out to a 7-5 lead after a quick 4-0 run thanks to a kill from sophomore
Abdul Kamara (Sierra Leon, West Africa) and an ace from junior
Shaquille Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The score was tied at 11 when MT. St. Vincent would go on a 6-1 run to make the core 17-12. That lead was enough for the Dolphins to hang on as Medgar Evers would lose the second set by a score of 25-15.
In the third set, it was a rough one as the Cougars gave up the first nine points to Mt. St. Vincent before a kill from
Abdul Kamara. The rest of the set was dominated by Mt. St. Vincent as they pulled away to win the set 25-5 to take the match.
Shaquille Miller led the way for the Cougars with a team-high seven digs while
Abdul Kamara added five digs and three kills on the match. Sophomore
Jovan Scott (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a team-high four assists on the day. Mt. St. Vincent was led by
Sean O'Connor who had a match-high 11 kills. Men's volleyball is back in action this Thursday, March 23
rd when they host Hunter in a CUNYAC matchup at the Cougars' Cave beginning at 7 p.m.
