Box Score Men's Volleyball Loses in Straight Sets on the Road at Conference Rival Lehman
(BRONX, N.Y.) – The men's volleyball team visited Lehman for a CUNYAC matchup on Tuesday night. The Cougars played a decent match but eventually fell in straight sets 3-0. With this loss, Medgar Evers falls to 0-15 (0-6 CUNYAC) on the year while Lehman improves to 7-8 (2-1).
In the opening set, the Cougars were trailing 5-3 when Lehman went on an 8-0 run to push their lead to double digits. Medgar Evers responded with two kills of their own, one from sophomore
Mark Reid (Atlanta, GA) and one from sophomore
Abdul Kamara (Sierra Leon, West Africa) making the score 13-5. Lehman would pull away from their winning the opening set 25-9.
It was an even second set as the score was tied at 4. Lehman pushed ahead 8-5 and never looked back from there as they took the second set 25-7. In the third set, the Cougars came out on fire taking a 6-3 early lead. Lehman took the lead right back with a 5-0 run to give them an 8-6 lead. The Cougars hung around as best they could but would eventually lose the third and final set 25-12.
Medgar Evers was led by sophomore
Kareem Cyrus (Saint Georges, Grenada) and freshman
Dwight Boone (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Cyrus recorded six digs, four assists, and two service aces while Boone added six digs, one assist and one service ace. Sophomore
Abdul Kamara (Sierra Leon, West Africa) recorded a team-high three kills on the night also. Lehman was led by
Jose Bautista who had 13 assists on the night.
Men's volleyball is back in action Thursday, March 9th when they travel to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) for a non-conference matchup beginning at 7:00 p.m.
