The Medgar Evers men's soccer team dropped a pair of contests, falling to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in a CUNYAC contest by a score of 2-0 on Friday afternoon on the No. 83 field at Randall's Island, before dropping a 3-0 decision to Kean University on Monday afternoon at Kingsborough.

With the two defeats, Medgar Evers is now 0-8 on the 2021 season, including a record of 3-0 in conference play.

In the Cougars' loss to John Jay this past Friday, the opening goal of the match came in the 22nd minute, as Mergim Mehmeti headed in a ball off a beautiful corner kick by Kevin Luciano. The Bloodhounds defense was incredible throughout the contest, but especially in the opening 45 minutes of action, allowing only five Medgar Evers shots (one on goal).

Bloodhound Mergim Mehmeti scored on a header off a corner kick from freshman Kevin Luciano. The defense was stout the entire game, but specifically in the first half allowing just five shots with one on goal.

John Jay increased its advantage to 2-0 in the 46th minute when Maksym Ivanov found the back of the net after receiving a beautiful pass from Justin Gharbin.

Bloodhounds netminder Jesus Perez kept the Cougars scoreless, stopping one shot and registering the shutout. Despite the loss for Medgar, goalkeeper Carl-Henry Obeissant did a phenomenal job keeping his team in the game, registering a whopping 12 saves on the day.

John Jay recorded 23 shots on the afternoon compared to just five for the Cougars.

On Monday afternoon, Kean University used three second half goals to defeat Medgar Evers. Kean's three tallies were courtesy of Nikolaos Theoudoulidis at 48:35 (from Sergio Martinez and Tabi Essa Jr.) and Santi Alzate (a pair of unassisted goals at 66:18 and 73:26).

Kean netminder Amr Mahmoud only had to make one stop on the day to earn a shutout, while Obeissant put together another hearty effort, registering 13 stops despite the loss.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, as the Cougars will take on the Hawks of Hunter College in a CUNYAC match. The contest will take place at Kingsborough, with a start-time of 3:00pm.
