The Medgar Evers men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match on Monday evening, falling to the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College by a score of 3-1 at Fleming Field in Yonkers, NY. The Cougars slipped to 0-2 with the defeat, while the Gryphons improved to a mark of 2-3.

In what was a solid half defensively for both squads, neither team was able to register a goal in the opening 45 minutes. Sarah Lawrence held a slight edge in shots, recording six to the Cougars' five.

The scoring finally started at 52:38, as the Gryphons were the first team to find the net when Dylan Bernard beautifully played a ball into the box, finding Pacqui Pasqual who headed the ball in over the leaping arms of Cougars netminder Woodson Chery to give Sarah Lawrence a 1-0 edge.

A little over 15 minutes later, at 67:35, Medgar's Jean Horacius would tie the match at one goal apiece by converting on a penalty kick.

Sarah Lawrence responded quickly, retaking the lead a little less than six minutes (72:32) later when Pacqui scored on a penalty kick. The Gryphons' Yusef Maftoon would put the match away in the final minute of action, rocketing a shot into the right side of the net with 41 seconds remaining to catapult his team to a 3-1 advantage.

The Gryphons outshot the Cougars by a count of 18-10 in the match. Both goalkeepers registered four saves on the evening.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Wednesday evening, as the Cougars will travel to Randall's Island to take on the Bears of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. The match will take place on field No. 75, with a start-time of 6:30pm.
