Three Medgar Evers soccer players earn 2023 CUNYAC All-Conference awards

The CUNY Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's All-Stars earlier this week, and Medgar Evers College was well represented, with three of its student-athletes earning accolades. On the men's side, offensive sparkplug Taye Simon was selected a Second Team All-Star, and veteran Dadley Dorfeuille earned a spot on the Sportsmanship Team. For the Medgar Evers women's squad, newcomer Nia Butler was tabbed to the Sportsmanship Team. Following the announcement of the awards, Director of Athletics Chetara Murphy praised the three aforementioned student-athletes.

"I'd like to congratulate Taye, Dadley, and Nia on a tremendous job in getting recognized by the CUNY Athletic Conference," Murphy said. "All three of these student-athletes worked diligently, making many sacrifices for their respective teams. They are very deserving of the honors that were bestowed upon them, and I couldn't be more proud."

Simon played and started in 14 of the Cougars' 15 matches during the 2023 campaign, setting the tone for the team offensively. The standout led the Cougars in five offensive categories, including goals (five), assists (three), points (13), shots (32), and shots-on-goal (15). His best game during the 2023 season came back on October 7 against CCNY at Aviator Field, when he notched a pair of goals.

Dorfeuille played and started in 13 of the Cougars' matches this season, and the standout established himself as not only a model of consistency for the team, but also the ultimate sportsman. The youngster showed tremendous dedication to his teammates, while also putting on displays of respect to the opposition.

For Medgar Evers' women's soccer team, Nia Butler has stayed dedicated and committed since joining the program this past summer. She is one of five Cougars to appear in all five of the matches that the team competed in, and Butler is always willing to take on any role that the coaches see fit for her. She very well could be a big piece of the team's future.

Although the men's soccer season has ended, the women still have two more matches remaining on their 2023 slate. The Cougars will play a road match at Yeshiva this Sunday at 4:30pm, before wrapping up their season on Tuesday afternoon with a CUNYAC match against York College at Aviator Field.
