CUNYAC announces '24-'25 Major Award Winners, All-Stars; Quezada earns Second-Team Honor, Metra the Sportsmanship Award

On the heels of the 2024-2025 CUNYAC basketball title games, the City University of New York Athletic Conference revealed its end-of-year awards, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Medgar Evers College's women's basketball teams were well represented, as junior standout Sheily Quezada was tabbed a Second Team All-Star, and Jennifer Metra captured the Sportsmanship award. Following the announcement of the distinctions, Head Coach Rodney Carr gave his thoughts.

"It is extremely gratifying to see two student-athletes as diligent and passionate as Sheily and Jennifer get honored by the CUNY Athletic Conference," Carr said. "Both of those aforementioned players gave 110 percent in every game and practice, and played pivotal roles in leading us to the conference playoffs for the second consecutive season. I am extremely proud of their accomplishments, and I'm excited to see them take the conference by storm in their senior seasons."

Quezada was one of the key reasons why the Cougars qualified for the CUNYAC postseason. One of three Medgar Evers players to compete in at least 19 of the team's games thus far this season, Quezada averaged nearly a double-double on the 2024-2025 campaign, scoring 12.2 points per contest, and collecting 9.8 boards per game. The Brooklyn, NY native was the team's leader in double-doubles (9), total rebounds (186), rebounds per game (9.8), total blocks (67), and blocks per game (3.5). The junior's 12.2 points per game ranks her second on the Cougars.

Sheily Quezada's Notable CUNYAC Ranks:
Total Blocks - 67 - 1st
Blocks Per Game - 3.5 - 1st
Rebounds Per Game - 9.8 - 3rd
Total Rebounds - 186 - 8th
Field Goals Made - 94 - 12th

Sheily Quezada's Notable NCAA Division III Ranks:
 Blocks Per Game - 3.5 - 1st
Total Blocks - 67 - 12th

Jennifer Metra captured the conference's Sportsmanship award thanks to her professional and admirable behavior towards her coaches, teammates, and opponents. In addition to the way she conducted herself on the court, Metra was a tremendous leader for Medgar Evers in '24-'25, keeping the team together while contributing in pivotal ways. She set a great example for the team's newest players, all while placing first on the Cougars in assists, third in scoring, and fourth in rebounding.
