Men's Outdoor Track & Field

Cougars snatch multiple CUNYAC weekly awards, including three major distinctions, and an honorable mention

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its outdoor track and field honorees for the period of Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13, and the Medgar Evers Cougars dominated the distinctions, capturing three awards and an honorable mention. On the men's side, Omari Hinds earned the Field Athlete of the Week honor, while Chrisnel Nicolas earned an Honorable Mention. For Medgar Evers' women, Toshel Goffe was selected the Track Athlete of the Week, while Rinnah Brown was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.

The four aforementioned student-athletes earned the conference praise following their sensational efforts at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College, this past weekend (4/11 and 4/12). Following the announcement of the honors, Head Coach Hugh Reid spoke.

"I'd like to congratulate the four student-athletes who received recognition from the CUNY Athletic Conference for their performances this past weekend," Coach Reid said. "The weather conditions weren't very favorable, but the student-athletes pushed through and exerted every ounce of energy they had. It's that kind of grit that makes me believe that more special performances are to come, especially as we gear up for postseason competition."

Omari Hinds showcased his elite field talent at the Silfen Invitational, qualifying for CUNYAC in not one, but three jumping events. He claimed 1st place in the high jump (1.80m), while also earning 4th place finishes in both the long jump (6.27m) and triple jump (12.31m). His ability to consistently compete at a high level across multiple events makes him one of the most dynamic and dependable field athletes in the conference.

Chrisnel Nicolas delivered a phenomenal two-day performance at the Silfen Invitational, placing 6th overall in the decathlon while rewriting the MEC record books. His score of 4396 not only set a new school and program record, but also highlighted his versatility with top 5 finishes in 6 out of 10 events. Nicolas secured a CUNYAC qualifying mark in the 110m hurdles (17.26) and pole vault (2.75m), and set three personal records in the 110H, high jump, and 1500m. His all-around excellence makes him a clear standout for Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Toshel Goffe was electric at the Silfen Invitational, placing 2nd in the 200m with a blazing CUNYAC and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 25.44—now 4th all-time in MEC history. She also anchored the 4x100m relay team to a 6th place finish (52.67), currently the fastest time in CUNYAC this season. Goffe rounded out her impressive weekend with a personal best in the javelin (22.77m), proving she's not only a sprinter to watch but a versatile threat across disciplines.

Rinnah Brown made a huge impact in her first collegiate heptathlon, placing 6th at the Silfen Invitational while setting a new MEC school record with 2982 points. Brown also recorded two impressive PRs, including a CUNYAC qualifying time of 27.68 in the 200m and a solid 2:48.34 in the 800m. Her performance not only set a high bar for first-year athletes but also positioned her as a key contributor moving forward.

The Cougars will return to the track and field this Thursday, as they'll travel to Lincoln University, PA to compete in the Lincoln University Invitational. Start-time is scheduled for 12:30pm.
