Mariko Diarisso's goal, Chris Edosmwan's stellar goalkeeping propel Cougars to 1-0 victory over Patriots

Box Score The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the 2025 campaign on Saturday afternoon, shutting out the Patriots of Valley Forge University by a score of 1-0. The match took place in Phoenixville, PA.  With the victory, the Cougars improved to a mark of 1-3 on the season, while the hosts slipped to 2-3-1.
 
A pair of Cougars newcomers teamed up on the lone goal of the afternoon, as 8:02 into the match, Boima Manubah slipped a pass over to Mariko Diarisso, who buried the ball into the net to give Medgar Evers a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Patriots outshot the Cougars 6-3 in the opening half, with Valley Forge keeping Cougars goalkeeper Chris Edosomwan busy. Edosomwan, playing his first game between the pipes this season, stopped four shots from the hosts to keep the Cougars in the lead. At the half, Medgar Evers led 1-0.
 
In the second session, both squads attempted six shots apiece, but neither team was able to break through for a goal. Edosomwan continued to shine in net for the victorious Cougars, as he made three saves, bumping his total stops on the day up to seven. While Edosomwan earned the victory in net, his counterpart, Valley Forge University netminder Jayce Blanton, took the loss, allowing one goal while stopping two shots.
 
The Patriots held a 12-9 edge in shots on the day.
 
The Cougars will look to make it two consecutive victories on Monday afternoon, as Medgar Evers will travel to York College to battle the Cardinals in a non-conference contest. Start-time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
