Cougars' outdoor track and field teams voted first in CUNYAC preseason poll; Griffith, Brown tabbed as Athletes to Watch

The CUNY Athletic Conference announced its outdoor track and field preseason poll on Thursday afternoon, and Medgar Evers' teams were both collected the most first place votes for their respective genders.

On the men's side, the Cougars, who have won the last two CUNYAC men's outdoor track and field titles, collected all four possible first place votes and totaled 16 points. 2025 runner-up Hunter was picked second with the other first place vote and 13 total points.

Reco Griffith is Medgar Evers' Male Athlete to Watch. Last season, he earned the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2025 after setting a conference championship record in the 100-meter dash. He won the 60 and 200 during indoor this season and was the Track Performer of the Year.

The Medgar Evers women's squad, who were the runners-up at last season's outdoor championship and are coming off winning the conference's indoor track and field title, collected four first place votes and 16 points. Five-time defending champion Hunter received the other first place vote and totaled 12 points.

The Cougars' Female Athlete to Watch is Rinnah Brown. The Sophomore was the Most Valuable Performer at last year's outdoor championship, collecting points for the Cougars in eight events including first place in the 100-meter hurdles and second 400 hurdles and the high jump.

Medgar Evers opened its season with a strong performance at the Army Open this past weekend. The Cougars will next travel to the John G. Hoyt '52 Track & Field Complex in Springfield, MA to compete at the Yellow Jacket Open. Start-time for the competition is scheduled for 10:00am.
