The Medgar Evers College Track & Field program continued its Outdoor 2026 campaign with an outstanding showing this weekend as they competed in two high quality meets that pushed them beyond their comfort zones. On Thursday and Friday at the University of Delaware Invitational hosted by University of Delaware and then on Saturday, the Cougars competed at the Bison Classic co-hosted by Gallaudet and Howard Universities. Over the course of the 3 days, the Cougars were tested as they faced competitive fields of Division I and II programs including Delaware State, University of Delaware, East Stroudsburg University, American University, Bowie State, Coppin State, Notre Dame, George Washington, and Howard University. MEC showed poise, depth, and resilience throughout the weekend, producing multiple CUNYAC qualifiers, regional qualifiers, and personal-best performances.

Quote from Coach Reid:

"This was an amazing opportunity and trip that we were able to go on. See what it felt like to be at a real intense competition (D1 and D2 teams). Great weather. We had to battle the fatigue. They did a great job of doing that as evidenced by the regional qualifiers, school records, and personal records. The athletes had a very trying week and were able to persevere through it, and they are going to be better off for it come CUNYs."

Notable Performers for the Men: Reco Griffith, Omari Hinds, and Pharell Fowler

Reco Griffith delivered a historic and dominant sprint performance across two meets this weekend, establishing himself as one of the premier sprinters in the region. At the Delaware Invitational, Griffith placed 2nd in the 400m with a CUNYAC-qualifying and Medgar Evers College school record time of 50.22, continuing his streak of rewriting the program's record books.

He returned at the Bison Classic and showcased elite sprint range, placing 3rd in the 100m (10.63) and 6th in the 200m (21.96)—all of his marking both a CUNYAC and AARTFC Regional qualifying standard. Griffith also contributed to the 2nd place 4x100m relay team, which qualified for the AARTFC Regional Championships.

Competing at a high level across three sprint events, Griffith combined speed, consistency, and championship impact.

Omari Hinds delivered another outstanding multi-event performance, demonstrating elite versatility and consistency across both field and track disciplines. At the Delaware Invitational, Hinds placed 2nd in the long jump (6.61m) and 6th in the high jump (1.85m), with both marks meeting CUNYAC qualifying standards. He also added a personal best in the 400m hurdles (1:08.66), highlighting his range as a complete athlete.

At the Bison Classic, Hinds continued his strong form, placing 2nd in the high jump (1.85m), 4th in the long jump (6.46m), and 11th in the triple jump (12.51m)—all while securing additional CUNYAC qualifying marks. He further demonstrated his versatility by qualifying in the 100m (11.50).

Hinds' ability to compete and qualify across multiple disciplines at a high level makes him one of the most dynamic field athletes in the conference.

Freshman standout Pharell Fowler had a breakout weekend, delivering high-impact sprint performances across two meets while continuing to establish himself as one of the top rookies in the conference. At the Delaware Invitational, Fowler placed 2nd in the 100m (11.20), a CUNYAC-qualifying time, and followed with a 1st place finish in the 200m (21.86), meeting both CUNYAC and AARTFC Regional qualifying standards.

He carried that momentum into the Bison Classic, where he ran a personal best of 10.76 in the 100m, placing 7th while again hitting both CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying marks. Fowler also played a key role on the 2nd place 4x100m relay (42.49), which qualified for the AARTFC Regional Championships, and contributed to the 5th place 4x400m relay (4:21.86).

Fowler's speed, growth, and immediate impact on both individual and relay events highlight his emergence as a top freshman performer.
