CUNYAC Awards Sweep

Men's Outdoor Track & Field

Following sensational performances at Springfield College Outdoor Classic, Cougars earn sweep of CUNYAC awards

The Medgar Evers College, Outdoor Track & Field teams dominated the CUNYAC awards distinctions for the period of March 30 through April 5, as Brianna Lindo (Track Athlete of the Week, Field Athlete of the Week, & Rookie of the Week), Reco Griffith (Track Athlete of the Week, Rookie of the Week), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete of the Week), and Pharell Fowler (Rookie of the Week) combined for six honors, making it a clean sweep for the Cougars this week.

All of the aforementioned distinctions were earned due to the student-athletes' stellar performance this past weekend (April 4) at the Springfield College Outdoor Classic.

Brianna Lindo delivered another exceptional all-around performance, making a major impact on both the track and in the field. On the track, she captured 1st place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.07, setting a new Medgar Evers College school record and achieving a CUNYAC qualifying standard. She followed with a 2nd-place finish in the 100m hurdles, clocking 15.00, another school record and an AARTFC regional and CUNYAC qualifying time. Lindo also added a 7th-place finish in the 100m, running 12.79 (12.78 in the prelims), another CUNYAC qualifier.

In the field, she showcased her versatility across multiple events. Lindo placed 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.44m, 9th in the high jump clearing 1.48m, and contributed in the throws with a mark of 8.12m in the shot put. She also recorded a personal best of 17.47m in the javelin, further highlighting her ability to compete at a high level across disciplines.

Reco Griffith delivered a historic outdoor debut, dominating the sprint events with a standout double victory. Griffith won the 100m dash in 10.36, currently ranking 4th in NCAA Division III. The performance secured CUNYAC and AARTFC regional qualification while setting a new Medgar Evers College school record. He followed with another first-place finish in the 200m, clocking 21.69, a conference-leading time and additional regional qualifier.

Omari Hinds continued to demonstrate consistency and athleticism. He placed 3rd in the long jump with a mark of 6.63m and 7th in the triple jump with a jump of 12.57m, with both marks meeting CUNYAC qualifying standards. Hinds also qualified in the 200m with a time of 23.15, showcasing his versatility.

Pharell Fowler made an immediate impact, finishing 6th in the 100m with a time of 10.95, meeting both CUNYAC and AARTFC regional standards. He followed with a strong 4th-place finish in the 200m, running 22.09, another CUNYAC qualifying performance.
