Medgar Evers College freshman midfielder Shammar Edwards was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for the period of Sept. 21-27, the conference announced Monday.

Edwards helped the Cougars remain unbeaten with a two-goal performance in Medgar Evers' 7-0 non-conference victory over York on Sept. 23. The freshman converted a penalty kick and finished the contest with three shots on goal on four attempts.

The weekly honor marks the fourth time this season that a Medgar Evers player has earned a CUNYAC weekly award.

The Cougars enter Wednesday's conference matchup with Brooklyn College sporting a 5-0-1 record on the 2026 campaign. Medgar Evers will travel to Brooklyn College for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
