COUGARS FALL TO MACCABEES IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Women's Basketball Cougars fell to the Yeshiva University Maccabees 70-65 in the 15th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Women's Basketball Tournament. The Maccabees improve to 2-3 Overall while the Cougars fall to 1-3 Overall.

The Cougars and Maccabees exchanged baskets three minutes of action. Medgar Evers College would tie the game three times during that span. Yeshiva would  make a layup with 18:05 left in the 1st half, and not look back. The Cougars would cut the lead to a bucket, when Sophomore Gurad Imani Mason made a running layup, with 11:35 left in the half. In the 2nd half, the Cougars would start to make a comeback. With 6:05 left on the game clock, the Cougars would start to make baskets down by 11pts (61-50).  They presured Yeshiva in making bad passes and forcing them to make not so easy shots. After four straight baskets, the Cougars deficit was cut to 5pts. The next two minutes, both teams traded baskets. The Cougars would cut the lead to 3pts, when Sophomore Guard Nia Tompkins hit a 3pt. shot, cutting the lead to 68-65, with 49 seconds left. Yeshiva would make a layup, extending the lead to 5pts, and held on to the 70-65 win.

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Sophomore Guard and Captain Nia Tompkins with a game high 17pts (3-5 3pt. Range, 2-3 FT-FTA). Tompkins grabbed seven rebounds, five assists, and six steals. Sophomore Guard Imani Mason scored 15pts (3-6 FT-FTA). The Marietta, Georgia native grabbed five rebounds, tallied four assists, added a block, and six steals. Freshman Forward/Center Kimonia Mullings recorded a double double, scoring 12pts and grabbing 12 rebounds. Mullings added two assists, two blocks, and six steals. 

Yeshiva in the win, was led by Julia Owen and Naomi Gofine, each with 14pts. Stephanie Greenberg and Haley David added 11pts apiece, and both Rebecca Yoshor and Rachel Mirsky tallied 10pts.

In the other game, the Blue Angels of College of New Rochelle defeated Pratt Institute Cannoneers 81-56.

Medgar Evers College will play in the Consolation Game, on Sunday December 1, 2013, when they play the Pratt Institute Cannoneers. Game time is 1pm.
